Advanced water filtration

Among the first in Romania to filter microplastics out of water

We are bringing IX PFAS to Romania — the dedicated filter in the IX Water ecosystem, built to hold back microplastics and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) before the water reaches the cup.

What microplastics actually are.

We are not selling fear — we are selling control. Research into the health effects of microplastics is still ongoing, and in 2019 the World Health Organization concluded that the available data did not indicate a risk at the levels measured then, while calling for more research. What has changed since is our ability to measure them — and the expectation that somebody does.

Under 5 mm
Microplastics are plastic fragments smaller than 5 mm. Below 1 µm they are called nanoplastics and are invisible to the eye.
≈240,000 particles/litre
The average measured in bottled water by a study published in PNAS in January 2024, roughly 90% of it nanoplastics.
150 µm
The threshold above which WHO considers absorption into the body unlikely. Below it, the data is still limited.

Regulatory context

Europe has already decided how to measure them.

2020/2184

Directive (EU) 2020/2184 on the quality of water intended for human consumption required the Commission to produce a methodology for measuring microplastics, with a view to adding them to the watch list.

2024/1441

Delegated Decision (EU) 2024/1441 of 21 May 2024 adopted the harmonised methodology: member states now measure by the same rules.

What follows

Results become comparable across countries and microplastics enter routine drinking-water monitoring. Whoever already filters has nothing to catch up on.

IX PFAS

IX PFAS

The filter built for what carbon does not hold.

IX PFAS is a refillable cartridge with ion-exchange media developed specifically to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. It captures both long-chain and short-chain compounds — the short-chain ones being what conventional carbon filters often fail to catch.

Within the IX Water ecosystem, IX PFAS is the model dedicated to microplastic removal: its five stages combine fine filtration and sediment reduction with the PFAS-specific media.

Five stages, in a single cartridge.

The head opens without tools: the filter media comes out, a recharged one goes in, and the casing and head stay on the installation. The same structure across every model in the ecosystem.

  1. 01

    Prefiltration

The first stage holds back coarse particles before they reach the filter media.

  2. 02

    Silver activated carbon

Removes chlorine, taste and odours — the stage you notice fastest in the cup.

  3. 03

    Sediment reduction

Separates fine suspended particles, including those shed by the distribution network.

  4. 04

    Media-specific treatment

The ion-exchange media developed for PFAS — the stage that sets IX PFAS apart from a conventional filter.

  5. 05

    Fine filtration

The last threshold before the outlet, for whatever particles remain in the water.

One head. Complete control.

Variable bypass, 5 settings

You set how much mineral content stays in the water, depending on what it has to do: espresso, steam or ice. An additional carbon stage on the bypass keeps the water free of odours and metal particles at any setting.

Servicing without downtime

The independent bypass stays available during a cartridge change, and the head has a built-in flush valve. A site does not close for a filter.

Reusable casing and head

Only the filter media is replaced; the casing and head stay on the installation. Less plastic thrown away by a product that filters plastic.

Distributed exclusively by us

We represent IX Water exclusively in Romania: we bring in the cartridges, install them and replace them on schedule, through our own service network.

Data as per the IX PFAS technical data sheet (edition V2). Capacities are determined on controlled test water; naturally occurring substances (chloride, sulphate, nitrate, alkalinity) can shorten cartridge life. To be installed on a cold, food-safe water supply only, flushed for at least five minutes before first use; a pressure-reducing valve is recommended above 3.5 bar; pre-treatment is recommended if chlorine exceeds 2 ppm. The filter media is single-use.

Where it goes in.

Specialty coffee shops

Water is 98% of an espresso. The same water, filtered identically at every site, means the same recipe everywhere.

Offices

A single filtration point on the water line feeds both the coffee machine and the still-water dispenser.

Hotels and restaurants

Treated water for the bar, the kitchen and the breakfast area, with bypass set separately on each line.

Vending operators

The cartridge changes quickly and the independent bypass stays available — the site never stops.

One system, four filter medias.

The head and the casing are the same across the range — only the media inside changes, according to what the water has to do at the end of the line.
